Chlorination Mini-Class Series - First Look at Chlorinated Rubber

2025-04-30

What is Chlorinated rubber?
Chlorinated rubber is a type of polymer material obtained by chemically reacting natural rubber or synthetic rubber with chlorine gas.
Preparation of Chlorinated Rubber:
Raw Materials:Natural rubber or synthetic rubber.
Chlorination Reaction: In a solvent (such as carbon tetrachloride), chlorine gas is introduced into the rubber solution to carry out the chlorination reaction.
Post-treatment:Chlorinated rubber is obtained as the final product through steps such as precipitation, washing, and drying.
The basic unit of natural rubber is isoprene . After chlorination, some of the hydrogen atoms are replaced by chlorine atoms, forming chlorinated isoprene units .
Finished Product: The industrial product is a white or light yellow powder, which is non-toxic and odorless.
